About the Brewery...
O'Hanlon's are rightly proud to be a specialise brewery with the emphasis firmly on quality, handmade ales. They must be doing something right, because their Port Stout has been selected as CAMRA's Champion Bottled Beer of Britain 2007. The Port Stout has its roots in what was known as a corpse-reviver, which was basically downing a glass of port in Guinness as a hangover cure!
About the Beer...
Dark chestnut-brown colour with ruby highlights. The nose has mocha coffee, milk chocolate and a hint of roasted malt. Traces of vanilla, soot, chocolate brownie and chocolate milk can also be discerned. The mouth is filled with mocha coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted malt (the great sign of an Irish dry stout), and in the background the sweetness of the port; there’s also a brief flash mid-palate of hoppy pepperiness and a fruitiness similar to that of currants (vinous), just to make sure all the sweetness doesn’t overwhelm things. Dry, grainy, malty finish with a whisper of mocha and the return of the fruit.
PLEASE NOTE: As this beer ferments in the bottle sediment will exist. As a guide store upright and pour extremely carefully.
